Vinyl Sound

I love the word ineffable. The sound of vinyl is like that.

I have said many times that convenience and quality are inversely proportional. That I use that term will tell you I am technically educated. Things that are easy just aint that good.

I read somewhere in the tumblr-verse that some guy did not understand the attraction of vinyl. High rez digital is all over the place and easy to get, blah blah blah. Hey if it works for him....

Geekdom likes to quote two parameters for sound quality. One is resolution in bits per second. The other is dynamic range in bits. More bits per second is better. Every bit you add to dynamic range doubles it. 17 is double 16 and on and on. Easy peasy. The bit rates keep going up as do the size of the digital numbers.

But converting strings of bits of numbers to sound is not easy and depends on changing (developing) standards and algorithms. The hardware is intrinsically complex and variable in quality. The best is very good, the rest aint so much.

Vinyl does not have the dynamic range of many digital formats, but it does surpass the most common ones. Mp3s please get away from me. Vinyl records have a dynamic range of 55 to 65 db. Take 60 as the middle and think that 60 db is a ratio of a million times. The quietest is one millionth of the loudest. Not enough for you?

To be totally fair many LPs are compressed to get more on them, or to sound better in bad systems. We don't buy those. (much)

True believers adhere to the idea of pure analog from performance to speaker is best and they are not sure why. Hey that is what faith is for. Believe something for reasons you forgot or never knew. There are two ways to have pure analog in your home one is tape the other is vinyl. So the faithful have only two options. ( Yes FM radio if they play LPs or tapes on air)

Tape has a possible dynamic range of 60 to 70 db at consumer level.

Resolution gets interesting.

Resolution is a bit tricky as it is based on a high frequency modulated signal to put the sound on the tape. For simplicity lets just say that tape will reliably respond from 20Hz of 20 kHz which is all us humans can hear. Tape is pretty good. In the golden age all albums were recorded with tape with a very few exceptions.

Resolution in vinyl is hard to pin down. As it is a continuous analog signal it can be claimed that the resolution is infinite. Beat that high bit rate boys. But I have heard that like tape the cutting of master disks uses a high frequency modulation to help with the cutting process. Be that as it may frequencies up to 45 kHz have been cut into vinyl records and successfully played back. Suck on that bandwidth fans.

(45 kHz was used to encode 4 track sound on LPs back in the "Quadraphonic" days)

Above I said "with very few exceptions" I have a few such albums in my stash. In the 70s a method called direct to disc was used. In that Musicians would get together and play a set that went right on to a cutting lathe. There were back up tapes, but the discs you bought were purest analog with no intermediate media at all. These sound amazing! They have to be experienced.

Now to be absolutely fair some of my favorite albums were recorded "digitally". One is "Famous Blue Raincoat" Jennifer Warnes. Another is "Trinity Sessions" by Cowboy Junkies. Interesting that in both examples tape recorders had a hard time with the bandwidth of the digital signal so they used video recorders. Computers were just not fast enough. An advantage of recording a digital signal with analog is the digital data can be reconstructed even with analog losses. Digital bits are all square waves.

I have both CD and LP versions of both of those albums. And to my ear I prefer the vinyl copies.

I do find it fun that digital recordings had to be recorded with analog tapes. Har har har.

Since the early days digital recording has improved. Computer hardware is now fast enough to capture very high bit rate digital streams so tape is not needed. There was a recent scandal when MOFI started to record precious master tapes on to DSD streams. The purity is VIOLATED.

DSD is very good, and fun fact it is ONE BIT. As a former computer geek who could do assembler code I actually understand how it works.

So have I actually said anything about how vinyl sounds? This is the hardest part. Recall that word at the top? My analog playback system is several times more expensive than my CD player which also does my Apple Music Streaming. More money spent there, so probably a lot better? But what do I hear.

My old ears top out at 12 kHz last time I checked. Still I hear a delicate cymbal strike or the edge of a high note on a string. On most music I hear a convincing image of a performance digital or analog. On vinyl it feels different, more comfortable. I am not doing double blind tests, but when visitors hear my system they always prefer the vinyl to the digital. It just sounds better.

I can hear Diana Krall open her mouth to sing on her "Live in Paris" album. There is that word palatable I am almost reluctant to use. It was used to death by the old team at "Absolute Sound".

In the end I prefer it. That is all you can really say.

Wakana Spring Live ～magic moment～ 2021 Review

Note: I FINALLY got my package. Now that I watched the full live in HD, I thought I would share m thoughts and a little present below the cut ^_^ As always, I would like to encourage everyone to SUPPORT Wakana by BUYING her Blu-ray!!! Her sales numbers aren’t the greatest which is a huge shame since this is a solid release.

Overall thoughts: I got the Limited Edition of course since I couldn’t resist the pretty sleeve packaging, the bonus documentary (so insightful) and the photobook (scans coming up soon). It is quite pricey but totally worth the money, especially if you are among those fans who liked “Magic Moment” much more than Wakana’s debut album. The release comes with a gorgeous clearfile as tokuten so be sure to get it! Try going for the Regular Edition if you want to save money. As for the live itself, it was a pleasure to watch and I can see myself rewatching it a lot (skipping a few songs though :P). Wakana’s voice coaching lessons are definitely starting to pay off. She has so much stamina these days. Can you believe that this was her SECOND live performance of the day? Her vocals were solid, even during her high-demand power ballads. At rarely any point did she sound overly-screechy to my ears, there were certain sections that didn’t sound 100% smooth but those parts definitely didn’t take away from my  overall enjoyment. On a side note, this live was a feast for the eyes, Wakana looked absolutely beautiful in her white dress and I even liked her encore outfit even though it was a little “out there” XD During the more up-beat songs, her smile literally lit up the entire hall. Seeing her have so much fun on stage is healing. I feel like they may have gone a little overboard on the blurry filters from time to time but I guess that was on purpose. 

1.揺れる春: 6/10. This is obviously the perfect cute intro for a Spring Lives so I understand why Wakana put it here but I would have much preferred “breathing” as a grand entrance. Still so sad that this is the only song from the “magic moment” album that didn’t make it onto the setlist of this live. I know, we already got an official audio recording but I would have loved some video footage to accompany it :P Anyways, back to Yureru Haru. I haven’t really warmed up to the song yet. It’s not bad and I honestly love the verses since they are super precious and feel kinda nostalgic but the chorus doesn’t stand out imo. Also, her singing style during parts of the chorus isn’t my favourite and not overly flattering. 2.where: 4/10. Oh no!! I was hoping Wakana would be singing the “ohhhohhhs”. She could have easily done it during the start and middle part of the song since it wasn’t overlapping with her other vocals. This seems so rushed? Is it just me? I haven’t listened to the studio version in a while but I know that I quite enjoyed that and it definitely didn’t make me feel as fidgety as this. Don’t know what it is exactly but it keeps me from getting into the song. I guess this is the biggest disappointment for me because I wanted to like it. 3.君だけのステージ: 4/10. I will admit it, this is not my favourite song. It’s just way too long :P But it is a very good and energetic performance, really no complaints when it comes to Wakana. But experiencing it live at the venue would have made it so much better for me. Oh well, nothing that can be done about it. The scat part at the end was a pleasant surprise. Would have loved to hear more of that. 4.442: 100/10. Honestly a masterpiece. One of Wakana’s best solo songs up-to-date and so very perfect to show off her vocals. Hearing it live like this with a band arrangement is a revelation. I love the wailing in the beginning and all the strength she conveys throughout the rest of the song. 5.ひらり ひらり: 3/10. Another song I haven’t warmed up to yet. No real thoughts. It’s one of those songs that’s just very forgettable, not bad per se but there is just nothing at all that attracts me to it. :-( As you can tell, I wasn’t entirely happy with some of the setlist choices. Wakana obviously wanted to include all the album songs but some of them are just not my cup of tea T_T 6.夕焼け: 6/10. This is one of the pieces that gets better every time I listen to it. And the latter half of the song is generally much nicer. I am always surprised by how much I actually like it when it’s over :P 7.アキノサクラ Acoustic ver.: 7/10. I am distracted by that harmonica sound-alike thingy Satoshi Takebe is playing XD Still, I have come to really like this song last winter so it is always appreciated, especially the acoustic version. Wakana is struggling a bit during the ending but nothing too bad. 8.myself: 100/10. Utter perfection. So much better than the studio version. And I am not saying this because I disliked the studio version, quite the contrary actually, I LOVED it but these two versions are honestly miles apart. Wakana’s live performance feels so much more raw and emotional. And her vocals in this are pretty much flawless, I can’t even begin to describe how this song makes me feel. A perfect ballad for Wakana. 9.メロディー (Cover): 8/10. My first reaction was boring. But by the third listen I was totally smitten and now it’s among my faves from this live. Be sure to give it a few tries, it really grows on you. I can tell why Takebe would choose this for Wakana. 10.元気を出して (Cover): 8/10. Ahhhhh, so freaking cute and old-school. Nothing beats a nostalgic, fluffy pop song from the 80s. I am here for this content. The “lalalas” at the end are LOVE. 11.オレンジ: 6/10. I like the song but I have to be in the mood for it. And here we have that fake harmonica thingy again. I enjoy the sound of a harmonica about as much as the sound of an accordion (which means not at all :P) but it fits the vibe of the song so I am okay with it. The bridge is usually my favourite part but Wakana’s delivery wasn’t as smooth as I would have liked. It was nice to have this right after “Genki wo Dashite” because both are encouraging pick-me-ups. 12.恋はいつも: 10/10. One day I wanna hear her sing the “baby, baby” part!! Please! Another absolutely highlight, you all know that I ADORE  this song, I could listen to this FOREVER. It’s such a shame the corona guidelines do not allow the audience to sing along because the ending is so much more powerful if everyone is actually singing instead of just clapping. 13.Happy Hello Day: 8/10. Such a feel-good piece. Initially I didn’t like it much but seeing it performed with an audience during her Music Party and now here, has really made me fall in love with it. I have mentioned it before in my initial reaction to the YouTube leak but I wish she would have sung some lalalas at the end just as she did during her Music Party. 14.magic moment: 9/10. I KNEW I would love this song more once I got to hear it live. I still feel like the composition is a bit choppy and thus not as flowy as I would have liked from a power ballad like this but OMG, Wakana’s live performance is EVERYTHING. Blown away by her powerful vocals, she OWNS this song 15.時を越える夜に: 10/10. Two power ballads back to back. What more could I ask for? I know not many people liked Wakana’s solo debut but I personally always thought it was perfect for her. I consider this to be one of her best songs. Say what you will about Takebe but he certainly knows how to make Wakana shine, at least in my opinion. And the song has only gotten better with every live performance. Although I think I preferred the version from her Voice Tour. So very glad we got at least one track from Wakana’s first album. The original setlist actually included Kinmokusei and Kioku no Hito which are two of my faves (they were later exchanged with the two covers). 16.春を待つ (Kalafina Cover): 8/10. Despite this being one of Keiko’s favourite Kala-songs I never could bring myself to really appreciate it. It’s just an okay song for me. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it quite a bit but I don’t go out of my way to listen to it. However, I very much loved Wakana’s cover though, she does a good job singing everyone’s lines and since the original doesn’t have any harmonies her solo performance doesn’t feel too lacking. 17.あとひとつ: 10/10. Always a treat. Can’t believe this STILL hasn’t gotten an official release :P  But I understand Wakana’s reasoning, she wants to keep this song a unique live experience and it really is. I can’t help but tear up whenever she is singing this.

Documentary: I haven’t watched all of it yet but OMG, this is so cool. The first 20 minutes are dedicated to rehearsals. I love seeing Wakana like this, just being her cute dorky self. But poor baby, it was hard seeing her this exhausted after the big studio rehearsal (that’s what the gif is from - being her overdramatic self, she literally dropped dead to the floor). The second half of the documentary is Wakana talking about the production of the live and the different songs of the setlist.

ahh I never ask for anything, I can never think of anything I want and it always seems too awkward to say even when I can. I just like receiving personalized gifts that clearly show the person thought of me, it makes me happy🥺

Uhh I think the last song was Tiny Dancer—the Taron Egerton ver. bc I’m obsessed with the entire Rocket Man soundtrack

Well I’m done with my summer class, so lately on mornings I wake up around 10am, I do my skincare routine, then I walk my dog for a bit before buying some iced coffee and going on ~2hr stroll with some family members. Then I get back home and start making breakfast. If I’m not working that day, I might just laze around and take a nap lmao

And I’d tell him that he should stop being so harsh with himself, that he shouldn’t focus on silly things like diets and should instead focus on being happy, because he’s already made all of us so happy. the   first   time   he   goes   to   school   he   still   hasn’t   mastered   how   to   speak.   there   are   some   laughs,   some   teasing.   he   is   stripped   of   the   money   his   new   parents   pack   for   him   to   buy   lunch,   and   it   stirs   something,   a   deep   terror,   the   seering   crack   of   bone.   he   hides   in   a   paper   cupboard   for   4   hours   as   the   teachers   search   for   him,   too   scared   to   disappoint   the   kind   eyes.  

they   coax   him   out   of   hiding   eventually,   and   there   is   no   anger   there,   just   forgiveness   and   pity.   his   mother   smooths   back   his   short   hair,   wets   her   index   finger   with   her   tongue   and   rubs   away   the   dirt   from   his   cheeks.

he   is   an   adult   now,   he   compiles   evidence,   makes   cases.   he   is   powerful,   but   there   is   still   a   hint   of   chengdu   in   his   accent.   he   is   provided   the   opportunity   to   take   a   bribe   but   rejects   it,   distrusts   the   scent   of   crime   and   the   way   it   bore   holes   in   the   lives   of   his   birth   parents.   there   is   shame   there,   when   he   finds   out   both   mother   and   father   serve   sentences   for   a   long   list   of   misdeeds.   he   had   escaped   a   similar   fate,   karma   dictated   he   must   put   order   where   his   parents   had   grown   disorder.  

but,   no   matter   how   much   he   tries   to   atone,   crime   pistol-whips   him   in   an   alleyway   and   tells   him   he   should’ve   accepted   the   bribe.   crime   is   the   black   eye   that   blossoms   like   a   sordid   flower   over   his   face   while   he   watches   his   career   fall   apart.

2019.03.12 NakamaruKun no Tanoshii Jikan 3 [Report]

So of course I went to this, and of course it was great! Let’s get right to it!

If you don’t know what this is, this is basically a one man show with Nakamaru who produces and performances basically all of it. The first one was back in 2008, and then he did another in 2017 and finally this one in 2019. The main ‘plot’ is basically just Nakamaru showing us things that he thinks about or that he finds interesting. It’s really random, really funny, and a lot of fun!

☆ The show opens with him, of course, doing a beatbox performance to get us all in the mood. But shortly after that we get into the first part/corner of the show.

☆ The first part of the show is him waking up at home (in bed, IN pajamas!) and the theme is: Relatable things that happen at home. So we had things like ‘hitting the snooze button but getting up anyway... forgetting you’d hit the snooze button and getting angry when it goes off..... getting angry when it goes off for the third time.... splashing your face with water three times.... talking to your pet plant... watching the news and making a commentary as you watch.... negatively ridiculing the experts on tv....’ and then there were some Nakamaru only ones such as ‘washing your hands after you touch your phone every time,’ and ‘being able to change quickly because you’re an idol’. Also during this segment, his ringtone AND his alarm tone was him beatboxing which I think is hilarious xD

The main theme is that Nakamaru’s manager has gotten sick so Maru has to do his schedule alone for the day, so we go through his day.

☆ So his first plan of the day is to do a TV news recording called YuIchi (a parody of his actual show Shuichi). He is pre-warned that the host and the guest (which are both projection mappings of him in different outfits xD) can be a little odd so he goes in prepared. But what he gets is more ridiculous than he expected. They talk about nonsensical topics, such as the new auto-parking cars (but the VTR shows the car banging into the nearby cars), and a straw to suck up curry. The other two think these are amazing ideas, while Maru is sat there in disgust and tsukkomi-ing (negatively commenting and scolding) throughout the entire thing.

☆ Then the scene changes completely and it turns into a boxing arena-type setting and Maru walks through the audience area in his boxing shorts and dressing gown. And this is where his infamous bra hook undoing challenge comes in (in an interview for Tanoshii Jikan 3, he said that the staff actually suggested he do this segment because it had become so popular with the fans xD) so he had to unhook as many bras as he could in 60 seconds. His goal is 60, but unfortunately he only got 55 this show.

☆  So after that, his next schedule is to check on the new album and songs. The new album has 8 songs and they’re all remixs of KAT-TUN songs. They were absolutely hilarious! And you could tell a lot of it was influenced by West/Shige (who’s worked with Ueda on Setsuyaku Rock), because we had things like: Real Face West Japan Ver. which was Real Face sung in Kansai-ben/dialect. We had LIPS Eating Edition, which had the sound of someone eating crisps just after Kame’s opening line but before the guitar kicks in. We had Keep the Faith Fan Edition. which was Male Ouendan Chants (it was absolutely hilarious! Maru said ‘the fans would never cheer like this,’ but to be honest, if you asked us to, we would!). We also had (either) White X’Mas or One Drop that was sung in an old Enka/Opera style. The remixs were absolutely hilarious! And so much fun to listen to! Also the new album ‘covers’ were the old grey silhouette style when JE wouldn’t allow previews on the internet. And then the LE edition had the actual member photos but it was Maru as all three of them. Maru turned to his producer and said ‘there’s no way in hell Kame and Ueda would do this (dress up as each member). Ueda would punch you if you told him to,’ which was hilarious because it’s so true! Only Maru would be up for doing this!

☆ Then we had a Metal Gear Solid inspired segment (calling back to UNION and CAST when they did impersonations of this game’s voices) where Maru used the ‘!’ sound and image, and he was dressed up in a MGS-like outfit. Here he did the questioning segment. So here are the question he got that day:

Question One: Is there a role from the other two’s dramas/movies that you want to do? -- Yokai Ningen Bemu. Even though Bem wants to be human, it’d be fun for me to become a yokai every week. Also... OreOre, but that would be very tiring to film. Kame did 23- *audience member yells 33* -- ah sorry, he did 33 different characters. It would be interesting to film though.

Question Two: Do you have an idea about your next solo song? -- I haven’t decided anything yet. I always think of doing a ballad or something because of my age, but then when it comes to the concerts, I really want to dance! So I always do a dance song with a high tempo.

Question Three: What’s your favourite underwear for women? -- I’m an idol so I can’t answer that! If I answer, everything’ll get blown out of proportion. Next question please ^_^

Question Four: What’s your favourite Dialect (in Japan)? -- I love all dialects. I’m from Tokyo so hearing them just sounds so cute. I guess, Kyuushuu’s dialect is nice. Around Kumamoto and Fukuoka is good. They say stuff like ‘~to! ~to!’ (at the end so) it’s really cute.

I did have a question prepared just in case but luckily my seat number wasn’t pulled out! PHEW!

☆ The next section, Maru goes to a voice recording and he has 4 different clips to voice (all the voices in the clip) for. Me explaining it isn’t going to do any justice at all. But the first clip was of a man being pulled over by an officer, and Maru voiced it so that the two characters were talking about Point Cards xD then next clip was two men meeting and Maru made it into a ‘oh this is my first time meeting you. It’s great to see you again even though this is our first time hehe’ type of thing. The third clip had a couple in a bath and he made it into a ‘so you only like guys with brains? But I have no brains! Are you gunna leave me?! So you’re saying you should have brains too?!’ and unfortunately I don’t remember the fourth clip.

During the curtain call, he told us that he and the staff had actually spent a week going through about 130 or so videos, and buying copyrights to a bunch of them so they could use them for this segment. He said he was going crazy after that week xD

☆ Then we get to the climax corner where he goes back to his room after the day’s schedules are done. And he checks up on his manager who says ‘turns out it wasn’t the flu! I just feel like I have the flu! So I went out and bought hot lemon tea and the limited edition KaniBread! You should go back out and get the KaniBread before it sells out!’ to which Maru is like... ‘you’re too sick to come to work but you’re feeling well enough to go out and get limited edition stuff?’ and the manager was like ‘....yes’ which my fangirl feels totally understand. I will go out dogsick to get an LE of KAT-TUN’s stuff or to go to a limited time cafe or something, but am I f*ck going to work if I feel sick.

☆ So Maru goes to the bathroom but ends up slipping on a banana. When he wakes up, his shadow had detached himself from Maru so now the shadow is running rampant all over Maru’s house. So Maru attempts to catch him and this leads into THE climax of the show which is a long 10 - 20 minute long performance where he used special effects, projection mapping, smells (of biscuits and hot lemon tea), special flying and maneuvering devices, sparkly outfits, suspended dancing glowing balls/crystals etc. It’s just so visually pleasing and it visually enjoyable during this last segment! All of KT’s and Maru’s performance habits came out in this one! We had the classic green light beam performance, we had Maru beatboxing, the very JE sparkly, shiny outfits. I also really loved the space segment of this performance too. He was on a blacked out rodeo horse thing and it made him look like he was floating in space which was so cool! Also at one point, the entire room went black except for some ‘falling’ colourful balls that came down from the sky and then in the center Maru popped up! The entire audience freaked back it was in the center of the first floor audience area! The fans were SO close to him!!

Such an amazing finale!

☆ During the Curtain Call Maru mentioned that there’s still some stuff he can’t talk about and he mentioned ‘KAT-TUN Events’ to which I freaked out because usually he would say ‘Con/Live’ if it was going to be a concert but because he specifically said ‘EVENTS’ my brain was going ten to the dozen! What events?! Debut event?! New album?! New Drama?! New Concert?! Another Line Live?! All of them?! What is in store for us?! So excited!!

there’s a lot of info beneath the cut so settle in and get comfy if you’re gonna read the mess that has happened within the last 5-6 months between fantagio and jc group.

let me also preface this by saying that something like this has never happened before.

alright so fantagio hit a rough spot in late 2016 (december-ish). their stocks were down an they were struggling. cue jc group, a chinese company (they do a lot of stuff, housing, hotels, product production). they bought up (roughly) 27.3% of the company, and wei jie became co-ceo with na byungjun. at the time, it was a really good thing. it helped fantagio quite a bit and propelled astro through the tail end of their autumn story promotions. it wasn’t a really big deal at the time, and i don’t think a lot of people were aware of it. (at the very least, the wikipedia page never got updated, so i guess that says something.)

in late fall/early winter 2017, jc group bought more shares of fantagio, now owning 50.7% of the company. they owned the most of fantagio, giving them quite a bit of power (as i understand it, at least). in a board meeting in late december 2017, jc group kicked out na byungjun and put all company credit cards on hold.

side note: it is possible for a company to limit how much of their company shareholders can have access to (at least in america, i believe), but that isn’t something fantagio did (or maybe they couldn’t?)

fantagio staff sorta kinda freaked out when they realized na byungjun was no longer the ceo. a lot of the fantagio staff (at that time) had been there for years and knew na byungjun personally. the staff held an emergency meeting, where they threatened to go on strike if na byungjun wasn’t reinstated as one of their 9 demands (more about those demands in a bit).

the company credit cards being pulled was also pretty bad. these cards were used only for business purposes. fantagio actors were filming and promoting dramas. astro and weki meki had things to do. everything that their artists did came out of pocket. actors traveled to and from filming location with their own money. astro (might have) paid for aroha’s meals at gayo daejejun in early 2018 and astro and weki meki (might have) paid for their fans meals during isac. fantagio artists are the best.

it also came out that jc group had been sending fantagio’s money to an unrelated company in hong kong. the way i understand it is that everybody knew it was happening, but there was no proof. (either because it was being done so slyly or what, i have no idea, but they couldn’t prove it as far as i know.)

sort of related (but honestly not all that important, but it makes me distrust jc group more), jc group first said they removed na byungjun because of a “management deficit” and the next day they said they removed him because they were going to go in a new direction.

here’s a rough translation of the 9 demands of fantagio’s staff. (they said they would go on strike if these 9 demands weren’t met. also this is a really really rough translation)

(also gonna be honest and say i don’t know what 100% of these are referring to but here they are)

major shareholder jc group will immediately apologize for their actions

abandon any attempt to finalize recruitment of fantagio (stop buying stocks)

apologize immediately for all fund operations (includes financial enforcement, financial transactions, and account management)

apologize immediately for deliberate missteps and accidents against artists, staff, and customer payments

apologized for corporate credit cards being abolished, which has affected the operations of their artists

funds leaked to hong kong (not related to original business) immediately stopped and all funds retunred

jc group has to declare that fantagio is not a company operate solely for the sake of the major shareholder (which is jc group)

reinstatement of na byungun to co-ceo position and reinstatement of all dismissed staff

jc group should remove all group officials who led the incident (meaning remove wei jie and his people)

by the time fantagio staff announced their demands, however, jc group was quite powerful and they couldn’t really make him do anything. but na byungjun was given a position on the board. he quit, however, releasing a memo saying he felt like he had let down the company and the employees that were loyal to him. he didn’t want anyone to lose their job because of a strike, so he left. prior to this,  quite a bit of the fantagio staff fired and replaced with workers from jc group (which isn’t an entertainment company in the slightest). there also came about a rumor that jc group would be “selling” fantagio trainees to other companies for profit. (it’s not entirely unusual for companies to do this, but rather (as i understand it), it’s more of trading than selling. jc group would not trade, they would be selling kids as if they were products.)

fantagio music was largely unaffected by this change (aside from the bit with the company credit cards). woo youngseung is the ceo of fantagio music and still holds quite a bit of power over the artists/promotions. however, weki meki’s second mini album release did get pushed back due to these issues. madin entertainment was also largely unaffected, though i believe seo kangjoon did turn down a pretty major lead role around when this was happening (we don’t know exactly why, but we assume it’s because he was unsure if he’d have the money to actually go to the filming).

yesterday (kst, 180513), however, jc group dismissed woo youngseung. this has caused a big issue because wei jie doesn’t have the right license/experience to be running a south korean entertainment company according to the stands set out by the CEMA (the korean entertaiment management association) in the act on the development of the public culture and arts industry.

from soompi:

article 26 of the act on the development of the public culture and arts industry states the following requirements:

those planning on working in public culture and arts must be registered by the ministry of culture. this applies also when the circumstances initially registered change.

those trying to register with a different method of what is listed in section 1 must match the following requirements

you must fulfill one of the following categories. however, if you are a corporation it must apply to more than one board member.

at least 2 years of experience working in the public culture and arts planning industry

complete curriculum regarding public culture and arts planning work that is carried out and determined by the department of sports, culture, and tourism.

i’m assuming that all was fine until woo youngseung was removed from power, and now the above from article 26 has been violated. because of this violation, fantagio would be considered to be working illegally due to not having the right licenses/registration/requirements. there is now a “red light” on all fantagio artists, meaning they are not allowed to promote or do anything, honestly, because it would be illegal if they did.

this is what i understand from here:

in a meeting on march 11, jc group decided to remove woo youngseung from his place and replace him with a new ceo that’s an employee of jc group. in wake of this, woo youngseung resigned on march 13. the person who has replaced woo youngseung is apparently the secretary of wei jie. 

fantagio artists are currently not allowed to leave the agency to join na byungjun’s new company, stardium, as they are in contracts. with how wei jie has handled the situation, there are restriction on fantagio artists’ activities.

fantagio/jc group now have 45 days to appoint a new person that is registered with the CEMA and has the proper experience/requirements/licenses.

this article about astro’s apparent comeback planned for june says basically the same things as the other.

so, what does this all mean? i can’t say for sure, as i’m not really an expert on south korean laws when it comes to the entertainment business. what i can say, however, is that there isn’t really anything to be worrying about at this exact moment. it appears there are 45 days for this issue (about nobody having a license) to be resolved before things start to get really iffy. if, at the point after 45 days from now, nothing has been done, then we can probably worry.

from what i do understand, investigation into fantagio/jc group couldn’t happen until now. because there was no proof of jc group doing all of the bad things staff said he did (sending money to hong kong, removing na byungjun without notice), the korean entertainment management agency couldn’t really do anything. now there’s a real problem that can be faced and punished. 

there’s a previous case similar. CEMA investigated a rookie actress who was terminating her contract. the company was investigated and CEMA said that the company didn’t have the right registration (like fantagio currently), and her contract was nullified. we may see something happen similarly with fantagio’s artists, but we can’t be certain on what will happen.

for now, we have to wait for updates and news. i will continue to keep everybody posted to the best of my ability when new information comes out. If anybody has any questions, please come to my inbox and i’ll do my best to answer them.

♡ ONF #YOU_COMPLETE_ME Fuse Support Step-by-step Tutorial  ♡

Hello Fuses! ONF are finally coming back with their 2nd mini album ‘You Complete Me’ on June 7th, so I have decided to make a very detailed tutorial on how you can help make this comeback as successful as possible to thank our boys for being such loving beings and for working so hard to keep Fuses happy (and to show them how much we have missed them duh). It is the time for fuses to do their part and make ONF complete! (see what I did there)

Also don’t kill me I didn’t have time to make a banner for the tutorial

This tutorial will include:

YouTube MV streaming on PC and phone/tablet

digital streaming

voting on music shows

digital downloads and buying physical copies

promoting

Lets’ get started!

1. YouTube MV streaming

YouTube views are important for many music shows and count as a part of digital points for award shows in the end of the year.

Pick a browser you are going to stream the MV with and read the following instructions. Google Chrome is currently the best option for this (you can download it here btw, it is completely safe) but it would be great if you could use more browsers and stream with all of them at the same time. That’s of course if your device allows it.

Do NOT reupload the MV on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook or any other social network or website. Make sure to put the LINK everywhere, especially if you are sharing gifs or snippets. Every view counts. If you see more than 30 seconds of it shared on Twitter (usually) without the person providing the link as well, do not hesitate to politely ask them to delete the tweet and report it as spam if they refuse to do so. Use as many devices as possible.

Streaming guidelines for PC:

Do not skip the ads! WM and ONF do profit from them.

Log in to your YouTube account to like the video and leave a few positive comments. That will count as one view, so after watching for the first time make sure to log out and then continue streaming following the guidelines. If you have more accounts, hit like button on each one of them.

Do not use the Incognito mode, it freezes the views. If you notice that the views have been frozen for a few hours, report it to YouTube as “PLAYBACK ISSUE” and do not panick. It is said: “To make sure that all views are validated, as view count goes higher, YouTube updates less frequently and might occasionally freeze above 300 views to assure quality view count. This is the normal operation in YouTube videos.”

You can open as many windows per browser as your internet connection allows but the videos should not be lagging too much to ensure view counts.

Do not refresh the page. Instead, search manually for the MV and stream only the official one uploaded on ONF’s channel. When you type in ‘ONF’ on YouTube, at the moment the first suggestions are ‘ON/OFF’ and ‘mixnine’ . What we want to do is get Complete MV there.

Your volume should be at least 50%. If you have more tabs opened at the same time, mute your device and not the MV itself to avoid the chaos.

Watch it from the beginning to the end without pausing or fast forwarding.

Clear your cache every 10 minutes and cookies every 1 hour. To avoid this step, just check out the history/cookie/cache cleaning extensions I have listed below.

[TIP!] You could reply to a lot of positive comments under the MV so people come back to it again. Worth a try! Do not forget to report malicious comments.

[TIP!] If you have an active YouTube channel, put the MV as your featured content (my channel > video manager > channel > featured content).

**You can create playlists, but do not include only Complete MV. If possible, create a playlist in this order: ON/OFF MV - Lights On (Performance ver.) - ON/OFF (Practice ver.) - Complete MV x3.

If you are going to leave your device on overnight to stream even while sleeping or while you are away (recommended), download the following extensions for your browser:

Super Auto Refresh

This will help you do the following: always stream MV in quality above 720p, refresh (not hit the replay button, this is because you cannot manually search for the MV while sleeping or when you are not there duh) and erase your history and cache. The last extension should be on even while being on you device. Auto Refresh MUST be set at 10 minutes (about 5 minutes for the MV and 5 minutes break: YouTube might validate the views faster like this).

Streaming guidelines for phone/tablet:

Do not use the YouTube app. That will count as one view, so after watching for the first time make sure to log out and then continue streaming following the guidelines. If you have more accounts, hit like button on each one of them.

The volume should be at least 70% so if necessary, use headphones.

Watch it from the beginning to the end without pausing or fast forwarding.

Do not refresh the page after the full stream. Instead, close your browser and then search manually for the MV and stream only the official one uploaded on ONF’s channel .

Clear search history ever 1-2 hours.

4. Retweet wm_on7off and wm_onoff. Use #온앤오프, #COMPLETE and #YOU_COMPLETE_ME hashtags whenever you can.

5. Participate in various support events. Here is a 1st Anniversary Project by ONF STATION.

6. Share the MV with your friends and ask them to support the comeback as well.

7. Donate for support projects by fansites if possible and support fellow Fuses’ edits, fanart etc.
